01. The Alamo

The fatal shooting took place at the Texas School Book Depository on 6th Street in Dallas. The six-storey museum is now housed within this red-brick building and provides detailed accounts of this assassination and the Kennedy legacy.

04. The Texas State Capitol in Austin
The Texas State Capitol constructed in 1888 is rated among the top state legislatures in the USA. It stands 308 feet tall and is in Austin's downtown and a National Historic Site today. The 22-acre site contains monuments to Alamo aficionados and Vietnam Veterans.
The interior is accessible by guided tours which commence at the visitor centre which offers numerous displays. At dawn, head up to Congress Ave Bridge to watch a thousand Mexican bats come and go from their seats under the bridge.

05. Padre Island National Seashore

30. Fort Davis National Historic Site
Fort Davis National Historic Site is a beautiful frontier fort which is carefully preserved. Fort Davis was built to protect travelers from raiders on San Antonio – El Paso highway in 1854. Between 1867 and 1881, its personnel were mostly African and blank troops.
Fort Davis was demolished during the Civil War and abandoned in 1891. But only in 1866 was the site refurbished. Currently it contains 20 well-preserved buildings — a success rate among 100 ruins — five of these are decorated with furniture from this period.
