Dusseldorf is an unusual location in the German travel calendar. We only came across the city the day we visited due to the highly anticipated Dusseldorf Christmas markets. We're glad that the city of Düsseldorf boasts an astounding amount of attractions. Dusseldorf has amazing architecture and landscape.

01. Enjoy Germany Hospitality With A Stay At The Quaint Hotel Sir & Lady Astor

As usual in a cosmopolitan town there are many wonderful lodging options available in Düsseldorf, and a favorite of ours is the charming central hotel Sir & Lady Astor. The boutique Bed & Breakfast has a convenient location just 10 minutes from the major shopping areas.

The cozy decor in lively hues, the great breakfast as well as friendly staff are all welcome here so that the nest can be found during your visit to Düsseldorf. Actually two adjacent buildings have different styles: Sirastor's section is stronger Scottish / African. The second half of Lady Astor possesses delicate feminine colours and floral accents.

Okay, it's not really clear why Düsseldorf's nightlife is better than Berlin. Despite the controversial nature of this event, this scene is unlikely to happen. There are some places in Altstadt, renowned nightlife destinations that can provide a unique Altbier experience.

There are streets lined with shacks filled with pub-style music and you could happily drink here until wee little hours. In regards to night clubs there are all kinds of clubs from punk to funk clubs to sophisticated cocktail bars to jazz bars.

04. See the Views from the Rhine Tower (Rheinturm)

Another important landmark you must visit during your trip is the Rheinturm, formerly Rhine Tower. The 240-meter tower is situated on the harbour side of town. Its observation deck is spectacularly beautiful.

Take advantage of the night view at night to have an exceptional view of the city below. This is also interesting as is Lichtzeitpegel, a beautiful sculpture which is the largest digital clock in the world. A restaurant sits on top atop it. 05. K21 Ständehaus

K21 Ständehaus was a separate museum space launched in 2002. It is the Neo-Rerenaissance parliament building and it has an incredible exterior and even more exciting interior. This provides optimum lighting throughout the room and lets you browse five floors of art from the 1970s.

The collection contains installations, prints, video art and photography from artists such as Paul McCarthy, Ejija Liisa Ahtila, William Kentridge and Nam June Paik.

06. Drink Dusseldorf's Oldest Altbier at Brewery Schumacher

Altbier is only in Dusseldorf but should definitely be tried for beer enthusiasts in the capital. The oldest altbier can be enjoyed in the brewery Schumacher, which dates from 1838 but still uses a traditional recipe. Schumacher Brewery is large and serves traditional German cuisine and there is an immense terrace hidden behind.

07. Visit the Museum of Art (Museum Kunstpalast)

The Museum of Art (museum artpalatt) display art from the 3rd century BC through the modern period. Among these works there are over 70k items devoted to visual art photos or applied art.

09. Wildpark im Grafenberger Wald

A 250-year-old beech forest is located near Düsseldorfs center of animals. The wilderness is focused on native German plants and their habitats are open and connected via a three kilometer walking path.

You are advised to bring apples and grains along for feeding. It is accessible free of charge throughout the year. There are around 100 mammals, including many species including deer (red and fallow), pheasants and wildcats. It has an apiary for beekeepers to perform live demonstrations.

10. Visit Schloss Benrath, a Baroque-style Palace

The Nord Rhein – Westphaliana art collections ("Kunstsammlung Nordrhein – Nordrhein-Westfalen – KNK") span three different areas in Düsseldorf. The largest collection K20 is located on Grabbeplatz. The modern building boasts an imposing black glazed facade that itself embodies artistic work.

Among the collection of paintings on display is Paul Klee's impressive collection of contemporary works of art. K21, located at the 19th -century Ständehaus building, offers many installations focusing on modern painting and drawings, along with sculpture and film. The third venue, the Schlosshaus, houses several temporary exhibitor buildings.

Flingern, once part of the working class, houses a large part of Düsseldorf's emerging art scene. In these areas there are dozens of independent stores, restaurants, bars and studios, and galleries.

15. Walk along Königsallee, Germany's Most Elegant Avenue

Düsseldorfs most luxurious street Königsallee — translated in English as King Avenue is affectionately known by local people as kö. Comparable to Paris' trendy Avenue Montaigne, this long stretch of luxury real estate was constructed in 1802 and draws crowds with a soaring eclectic mix of luxury boutique boutiques, designer clothing boutiques, and luxury shopping arcades.

A lot of galleries are available as well as cafes. Some of the best luxury hotels along the road also feature rooftop terraces that give great views on busy streets and cities.

Since 1490 the Carlsplatz is Düsseldorfs oldest market and sells almost every product that can be imagined – meats and vegetables, fruit, flowers, coffees and fish soup (popular). Seriously, we would buy our groceries in Düsseldorf.

During your visit you will not need potatoes, but there are dozens of delicious dishes available in a variety of shops under a glass facade. Currywurst is offered, but also crepes and the popular Indian food are offered. There's an excellent area where you can enjoy a cup of tea that is a real treat amongst the locals.

17. St. Suitbertus

Kaiserwurth will keep you there a long time with their medieval church, built out of volcanic stone. Found on Stiftsplatz, the 12th-century triple-aisle church was built during the 12th century and the Gothic choir was founded a century later. There are remains from the eight-century saint Suitbertus in an elegant reliquary.

The relic was transported to the site in 1264 and put into a chest carved from ash and coated with gleam copper. On both sides is relief showing the Apostles, while on the covers are scenes from Jesus'life.

Besides the archaeological sites, there is a reproduction of a stonework shop and paintings displaying human evolution in various styles and shapes. The audiobook is available in English.

21. Eat Famous Dusseldorf Fish Soup

Although there are plenty of restaurants in Dusseldorf, one of its most delicious restaurants is at Carl Platz Market. At lunch time tourists come in to buy cheap kebabs, Italian dishes, deli food, and German food.

I wanted to eat the spicy fish soup at Fischhaus W Obst. Fischhaus W Obst fish soup is considered Dusseldorf's best fish stew. I'll be honest – this food was amazing! Pro Tip: Sundays are closed.

22. Where To Stay in Dusseldorf, Germany

We think the most comfortable place in Dusseldorf is in the town center. However, due to our plan of our trip at a later time the hotel in Dusseldorf had already re-opened. Instead, we opted out of staying in an Airbnb apartment in downtown south-west Rheinturm.

Airbnb apartments are often cheaper than hotels and offer facilities that the majority of hotels lack (such as kitchens and outdoor spaces). Tourists with an income will probably find Airbnb apartments to be the best accommodation options in Dusseldorf. There is a huge selection of hotel options in Düsseldorf, Germany.
