All South Dakotans need to visit Wind Cave National Park. Wind Cave has been regarded as the most dense cave of all time. Almost all calcite forms are honeycomb -shaped, also called boxwork.
Boxwork can be produced by calcium carbonate crystals on the surface of a rock. The surrounding rocks erode and leave behind a box-type of crystallization. However, historically Wind Cave was a sacred place for the Lakotas.

06. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

11. Apostle Island Sea Caves—Wisconsin, USA
Wisconsin doesn't have much salt water and calling these "sea caves" might sound like a bit of a stretch. Summer visitors to these breathtaking caves will see stunning red sandstones in their formation on Lake Superior. The most enjoyable experience is in the cold winter when the melting of ice creates thousands of ice crystals which sparkle as diamonds in the walls of caves.
12. Kartchner Caverns State Park - Benson, Arizona
If you like bats, Kartchner Cavern State Park in Cochise County Arizona is a must see. The cave houses myotis velifer colonies. Keep an eye out when the bats hibernating are hiding from predators and are difficult to see from their caves.
Arizona Stateparks offers four tours. Two typical cave tour routes go through other parts of the caves; the Rotunda/Throne Tour is only partly underground while the Bigroom Tour is a little further.

13. Luray Caverns – Luray, Virginia
The Luray Caves were originally known as Luray Caverns located near Luray, Virginia. Luray Cave draws hundreds of thousands of visitors since 1878. Luray cavern system has generously adorned columns with spelesothem mud, stalagmites and stalactites, mirror pools and riverstones.

14. Moaning Caverns – Vallecito, California
Moaning Caverns awaits a cave hiker at an ideal location in Vallecito. Developed from the limestones in the Calavera massif from Gold Miners, the solution cave dates back to 1840. The bones of artifacts date from habitation in old cave dwelling times.

The caves are a focal point for Jewel Cave National Monument, built in 1908 in Custer, South Dakota, and are 13 miles from the downtown town of Custer. The cave has the longest cave in the world, behind Kentuckys mammoth cave system and Mexicos Systema Sac Actun covering a distance in which only approximately 2% of the world's population reside.

22. Craighead Caverns
Craighead Caverns are located in the foothills of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and are best known for being the location of the Lost Sea, the 2nd largest underground natural cave. They were named in honor of Cherokee Chief Craighead and formerly served as saltpeter mining sites by Confederate forces during America's Civil War.
