New Zealand has a great variety of stunning natural attractions spread over the two main islands, the North and South. With just a small population of about 5million, nature is still intact and waiting to be explored.
It can be very overwhelming for a first-time traveller to decide where the best place should be to spend their first holiday and so I compiled the best New Zealand destinations.
01. Tongariro Alpine Crossing, North Island
The Tongariro Alpine crossings are among New Zealand's best hikers. The trail brings you through some of the best landscapes in Northern New Zealand. The volcano landscape of Mt. Ngauruhoue for fans of Lord of the Rings and Mt. Death are the best places in the world to see Emerald Lake and the beautiful glittering Emerald.
02. Bay Of Islands
One of New Zealands most popular tourist sites, the Bay of Islands offers a sanctuary where yachts can be found. Pearl of 144 islands decorate the necklaces from the Bay of Islands. Kayak around the coastline or hike the Island Trail, enjoy secluded bays or discover undisturbed woods.
A wide variety of marine species including dolphin whales, and penguins, are an important fishing site for the area. All of which make it a fantastic tourist attraction in New Zealand. 03. Nelson, South Island
Nelson is known for the laid-back atmosphere, gorgeous sunshine, long golden beaches and the beautiful scenery. The area is a good destination for a relaxing vacation, away from the tourist sights.
Nelson offers plenty of interesting activities despite its relaxed nature. The city itself is located in a beautiful area along the Maitai River, where trees run down the river and create the beautiful greenspace to walk in.

04. Wanaka, South Island
Wanaka is a place in New Zealand you cannot expect a lot from it but subsequently it became the prettiest place to visit. Located near the shores of Lake Wanaka City, we enjoy the outdoors in the beautiful blue lake.
You can spend hours walking around the lake or visiting the famous Lone Tree of Wanaka. You can also buy a kayak to explore the Ruby Islands on Lake Wanaka from here or simply enjoy the remote beaches or for some good views of Lake Wanaka.

05. Chatham Islands
Chatham islands form ten islands, which lie approximately 500km north of the South Islands of New Zealand. The Chatham islands with their rocky coastline and wild wilderness are an ancestral home from the Morisiori tribe.
Daily flights to Chatham Island via Air Chatham depart Auckland and Whangatanui. The islands are well known for fresh seafood and are easily accessible from any Chatham restaurant.

06. Coromandel Peninsula
The Coromandel Peninsula extends 59 km from the Hauraki Golf, across the Firth of Thames from Auckland. It is just one microcosm from all the wonderful attractions on Northern New Zealand -- stunning beaches, walking trails and artful, laid-back towns.
During low tide on Hot Water Beach dig some inches beneath the sand for your own natural hotspring bath, spend the day at Cathedral Cove, the largest New Zealand beach. To explore the whole Coromandel Peninsula it would take a week.

07. Napier In Hawke's Bay
Photo Source Gourmet meals and art-déco – these are what makes Napier a great place to see in New Zealand. The Spanish Mission architecture and Art Deco architectural styles dominate this city. Occasionally they feature Maori designs. Gourmet dining is a must. Even simple and delicious dishes have their advantages.

08. The Abel Tasman Track, South Island
Al Tasman National Park is the largest of all the national parks in New Zealand. The small National Park has an excellent walk in New Zealand, The Abel-Tsman Trail, which runs along the shores of the north-east coast of the South.
The Abel Tasman Track takes you on a 60-mile-long trail around the beautiful coastline at the Northern portion of the South Island. You can discover some of our most beautiful beaches, forests and wildlife.

09. Abel Tasman National Park
Many people travel by Interislander boat from Wellington up to Picton on the South Island. Abel Tasman is known for its beautiful golden beaches, turquoise oceans and wooded trails. For more long hikes visit Marahaau's small village to the park.
It can be entered through a kayak from the Kaitersiters. Guests staying near Nelson and Motueka can enjoy the park for a day. To do the popular coastal walking, it requires 3 to 5 days. 9 on 15.

10. Queenstown, South Island
Queenstown is a world travel capital and whatever sport or activity we can tolerate the whole human beings has probably found its way in this area. There's not a chance of you ever being able to leave Queentown and leave something (safely or securely of course). And this means I mean skydived out of an airplane at 12,000 feet.

11. Mount Cook National Park
Mount Cook National Park is also formally named Aoraki National Park, and lies on the summit of Mount Cook, and the longest Glacier Tasman Glacier. Here is Edmund Hillary training for the summiting of the Giant Everest. A top place for the mountains, its glacial and pristine landscapes make for an ideal getaway.

12. Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula
Dunedin University City, Eastside South Island. Dunedin translates to Scottish – Gaelic for Edinburgh, and a big Scottish impact has been felt in this area. The Neogothic buildings in Otago, the Dunedin Railroad station and several churches lend Old World style in Dunedin. Baldwin Avenue is a unique street. (The first is Harlech Welsh). A short distance from Dunedin lies the hilly, windswept Otago Peninsula.

13. Fiordland National Park
Fiordland National Park has many wonderful hiking routes. Whispering waterfalls and cascadies make for an unforgettable ride. The popular ways to explore the fjords include sailing and fjord boating. 14. Tongariro National Park
The Tongariro National Park is a double World Heritage Site, which has both natural and cultural significance. The majority of the sights are located in 3 volcanic mountains - the Mount Tongariro Ruapeho and Ngauruhoa Mountains.
The Tongariros Alpine Crossing is a moderately difficult day hike. Winter skiing in Wahakanpapi Ski Area and Turo. The time commitments: You have to spend the day on the famous Tongariro Mountain Crossing. The park also provides hiking trails and skiing opportunities during the winter.

15. Akaroa and the Banks Peninsula
The Bank' Peninsula lies about southeast of Christchurch on the volcanic land mass that contains several volcanic eruptions. There is a large number of harbours and bays and wildlife sighting areas and the French community of Akaroa, the oldest town within Canterbury province.
It's got numerous buildings dating from the nineteenth century and cute French cafes. The Hector's Dolphins -- the most rare of all species -- reside in waters off the banks. Sea kayaking can give a good view. The Peninsula has many bike and trekking routes.

16. Lake Tekapo, South Island
The picture that pops up on your memory is of a pastel blue lake and vibrant purple fields of Lupin trees. Lake Tekapo is a tiny lakeside town with similar names and one the best destinations for visiting New Zealand in the south.
Lake Teapo is probably an amazing lake in New Zealand with pastel blue water, purple lupin fields against beautiful snow and blue sky. There's nothing worse than this.

17. Lake Wanaka
Lake Wanaka is New Zealand's fourth-highest lake and is situated on the South Island within Otago's Otago Region. The clear crystal waters of this lovely lake are a good photo backdrop whereas the warm inland air is perfect for a few days of relaxing out on the sea.
Summer Lake Wanaka is ideal for sailing, fishing or kayaking, and its nearby mountainous landscapes make for an excellent setting to hike, climb or even skydive. During the winter season, the mountains of Lake Wanaka host skiers on the slopes.

18. Franz Josef Glacier, South Island
Franz Josef Glacier is a natural wonder along South Island. The 12 km wide and less than 3300 metres from the southern Alps, it reaches Franz Josef Glacier has been recognized as one of the world's most accessible glaciers for visitors to see and interact. Franz Josef's city offers many opportunities for an unforgettable adventure.
19. The Milford Sound, South Island
Milford Sound has been known as a place where 10 years has passed since you recalled your New Zealand trip that was 10 years before you came to the area of Milford Sound. It's probably one of the best memories of New Zealand that one can experience on a cruise along the quiet waters of Milford Sound.

20. Waiheke Island
Located just a half-hour from Auckland City center, Waihekes Island can be reached via boat and has a unique location. It's a great place to find the perfect wine lover. This region has several vineyards.
During your visit there will not be an inability for wine excursions. You can sample 15 wines on wine tours. Guided tour operators take you through three vineyards that offer some very fine wines for tasting. There are other activities on Waiheke Island which are more important to visitors than drinking wine.

21. Nelson Tasman
Nelson Tasman is the most pristine and sun-filled region in New Zealand with its beautiful coastlines filled with white sandy beaches, dense green forests, tall hills and refreshing lakes. On a sea kayak tour the guests could spot penguins, sea lions and dolphins. Nelson is famous for its Nelson Bay scallops and the restaurants along the shore serve them with the finest wines locally grown.
22. Waitomo Caves
Waitomo county is green and hilly, but underneath its sunny, glassy environment there is something dark and intriguing. Visitors to the Waitomo caves can view the massive stalactites and stalagmites illuminated by the populations of fluorescent glowworms which live in the caves. Those who are more adventurous may also choose to explore the caves via ziplines or by black water rafting.
